Bobby Scarlet, "Mosquito"
Speedy in-and-out post for one song off one of two singles a West Sussex, England, band called Bobby Scarlet released in the 80s. Restless guitar pop that sounds as though it was pressed for 33⅓ RPM playback but mislabeled as 45. The leading hook in this track, "Mosquito," reminds me much of Modern English's "I Melt With You"'s, but maybe that's just because it shares the same brittle, warbly timbre.
In the 90s, the group reconfigured and rebranded as Spitfire and dropped a couple full-lengths of gritty, greasy garage rock with a seed of psych at its core. I can imagine the Hives being into them during their early days.
