Simply Saucer
An amazing proto-punk band from Hamilton, Ontario, that alluringly sounds like it both anticipates and proceeds hotheaded garage like the Stooges and cerebral art-house like the Velvet Underground. The vocalist and frontman, Edgar Breau, has a stuffy-nosed Jonathan Richman patois, too, so there's some Modern Lovers telegraphing there, and the shredded, ragged edges that define the shapes of their songs feel steeped in Sonic Youth defiance.
Daniel and Bob Lanois recorded the session, in 1974, that eventually saw the light of day on this compilation, Cyborgs Revisited. (So interesting to consider what the brothers were doing at that time. Bob was engineering one of Raffi's adult-oriented albums and Daniel was working with bluesman Jackie Washington.)
