Turn On, "Young Cherry Trees Secured"
A Stereolab dust wafts through the air right now as a result of the expansive, inspiring reissues they've been dishing out. What can I talk about that's adjacent to Stereolab? Turn On, a curio, though one that's certainly not just for the heads and diggers. It's a wry and playful jaunt that feels self-mocking at times.
The quick, mostly instrumental LP was recorded by Tim Gane with his bandmate and drummer, Andy Ramsay, and his old friend and fellow kitschy lounge enthusiast, Sean O'Hagan, of Microdisney and the High Llamas. Jazzy, bubbly, loopy, it's a thoughtful epilogue to Emperor Tomato Ketchup, which was released the prior year.
